Kitchen Supervisor – The Library West Kirby
The Library is a small, family-owned bar and restaurant that has been operating in Oxton Village for almost three years. We’re now opening our second venue in West Kirby and are looking for a reliable, hands-on Kitchen Supervisor to join our opening team.
Our West Kirby menu will include focaccia sandwiches, Italian-inspired small plates and salads, pizzas, grazing boards and sharing dishes. The focus is on excellent preparation, presentation and consistency rather than elaborate cooking.
You don’t need to be a formally trained chef with years of experience, but you should be confident in the kitchen, organised and comfortable taking responsibility for smooth day-to-day operations.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working as part of a small team, cares about the quality and presentation of food, and would like to play an important role in establishing the kitchen of a brand-new neighbourhood venue.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the day-to-day running of the kitchen, working closely with a small kitchen team.
- Help establish effective kitchen systems and standards ahead of opening.
- Organise and delegate kitchen tasks to ensure efficient service and consistent food quality.
- Prepare, assemble and present dishes to a consistently high standard.
- Complete weekly stock takes and monitor stock levels and food wastage.
- Manage stock ordering and arrange local purchasing or collection when required.
- Ensure all food is stored, labelled and rotated correctly.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, health and safety, and kitchen cleanliness.
- Ensure food safety records and required checks are completed accurately.
- Work closely with the Bar Manager and wider team to ensure smooth service.
- Assist with receiving deliveries and maintaining organised storage areas.
- Support a positive, reliable and team-focused working atmosphere.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience working in a kitchen; preparation-based kitchen experience will also be considered.
- A good understanding of food hygiene and health and safety requirements.
- A relevant food hygiene qualification, or willingness to complete the required training before starting.
- The confidence to take responsibility for and organise a small kitchen team.
- Good communication and people skills.
- Reliable, punctual and organised.
- Able to remain calm and efficient during busy periods.
- A strong eye for food quality, consistency and presentation.
- Happy to work evenings and weekends between Wednesday and Sunday.
- Comfortable working independently when required.
What We Offer
- £13–£15 per hour, depending on experience.
- Approximately 40 hours per week.
- A share of staff tips.
- Product, menu and service training.
- A supportive and welcoming, family-run working environment.

- The chance to take responsibility for kitchen operations and further develop your leadership skills.
