Job Summary
Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the cooking side of production, including weigh-up, cooking, and pouring. The role ensures that all products are prepared, cooked, and packed in line with company standards. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will support and guide team while also being actively involved on the floor to ensure production runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
· Lead and support teams across weigh-up, cooking, and pouring areas.
· Provide clear direction and coordination to ensure smooth workflow between stages.
· Monitor attendance, timekeeping, and day-to-day performance.
· Support training of team members to ensure consistency and capability.
· Address day-to-day issues and escalate where required.
Production Oversight
· Oversee daily production across weigh-up, cooking, and pouring to meet plans.
· Ensure correct sequencing of ingredients and batches for full traceability.
· Coordinate activity across all kitchen stages to avoid delays or bottlenecks.
· Step in and support any area as required to keep production moving.
Food Safety & Quality
· Ensure all food safety, hygiene, and HACCP procedures are followed.
· Monitor critical control points (CCPs), including cooking times and temperatures.
· Ensure all records and paperwork are completed accurately.
· Maintain full traceability from raw ingredients through to finished product.
· Work with Quality to resolve any issues quickly and effectively.
Process & Standards
· Ensure recipes, processes, and standards are followed consistently.
· Oversee washdowns and cleaning to maintain high hygiene standards.
· Ensure allergen controls are properly managed across all areas.
· Maintain audit-ready standards across the kitchen operation.
Team Coordination & Communication
· Work closely with the packing team to ensure smooth handover of product.
· Communicate daily production plans and priorities clearly to the team.
· Provide updates to the Operations Manager on performance and issues.
Continuous Improvement
· Identify practical ways to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and improve flow.
· Support improvements across weigh-up, cooking, and pouring processes.
· Encourage team involvement in improving how things are done.
Health & Safety
· Take responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment on site.
· Ensure the team follows health and safety procedures at all times.
· Deal with any incidents or near misses appropriately and put improvements in place.
Promote a strong, practical safety culture across the team.
Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience in a food production or kitchen environment.
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP).
- Experience leading or supervising a small team.
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage workflow across multiple stages.
- Hands-on approach with a willingness to support on the floor.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
- Experience in FMCG or food manufacturing.
- Experience overseeing multiple stages of a production process.
- Understanding of traceability and batch control systems.
- Experience driving improvements in efficiency or reducing waste.
- Flexibility to work various shifts as required, including early mornings or late evenings if necessary
