Elective Admissions is based at Burnley General Hospital, however on occasions there will be a requirement to work at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy team of clerks to gain knowledge and experience of creating theatre lists and managing patients waiting times.
We are looking an individual who is organised, reliable, computer literate, a good team player, keen to provide a good quality patient service and have the ability to rise to the challenges ahead.
The post holder will be responsible for the effective day to day management of their consultants theatre list achieving 85% theatre utilization, replacement of cancelled operations and achieving patient waiting time targets whilst providing an excellent customer service.
Elective Admissions is a valued service provider to the trust. We are responsible for the scheduling of patient admission dates for all elective surgery. Our goal is to achieve 85% theatre utilisation for approximately 90 consultants within General Surgery, Orthopeadics, Gynaecology, Urology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Max Fax, Chronic Pain and Cardiology. We are looking for an individual with a positive attitude and join our team of booking clerks to achieve to our targets, ensure patients are treated within 18weeks and provide a quality patient service.
Ensure that the work area is tidy, signs and notices are in date and displayed correctly
Check patients details and demographics and ensure that Cerner is updated
Collect waiting list slips from clinic, post, fax machine and emails add to waiting list on pas
On receipt of referral l into the department add all patients to the active waiting list.
pre admit patients from collected slips, book POA if necessary and record in diary /template
Action clinical suspend, clinical pauses and self-referrals on PAS system
action pre-op outcomes
Schedule patients in compliance with 18-week RTT date or by degree of urgency as directed by clinician
Agree Operation dates with patients – using agreed direct patient communication pathway
Send confirmation letter to patient
Add patient to theatre man as soon as date agreed
Comply with lockdown process and ensure all lists (apart from those on the EXCEPTION LIST) are fully booked 2-week prior to theatre date
Check proposed utilisation is compliant with 85% utilisation
print planned utilisation list and send with proforma e mail to all necessary contacts
Action response from surgeon following proforma e-mail
Ensure that any issues that prevent 85% utilisation or lockdown are escalated to Team Leader
Action emails in timely manner
Action telephone calls and answer machine messages in timely manner and ensure that messages are taken accurately and actioned appropriately i.e. passed to individual clerk or supervisor
Replace patients identified on ERS report
When requested track PTL to find patients suitable to transfer to another consultant
Cover colleagues as required
Distribute post
Request health records for any short notice admissions
Liaise with Multidisciplinary team
Complete IR1 as necessary
Complete all mandatory training annually
Participate in annual appraisal /PDR
