We are seeking 1 x Assistant Store Manager (40 Hours) to join a relaxed and friendly team in our Gunwharf Quays Store. Being part of a premium technical apparel brand, competitive salary, product training will be provided and generous staff discount and uniform allowance.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Customer Service
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional, personalised customer service and actively engage with customers on the sales floor. Provide professional support with escalated queries and complaints.
- Role model service programme techniques and ensure consistent adoption across the team.
- Create a welcoming, premium in-store experience that reflects Musto’s performance heritage and lifestyle positioning.
- Ensure every team member delivers an outstanding customer experience through regular feedback, coaching and performance conversations.
- Use customer feedback, service KPIs and reviews to drive continuous improvement in service standards.
- Coach the store team in the application of policies, procedures and service guidelines.
- Set daily and weekly objectives, follow up on performance and support individual development plans.
- Partner with the Store Manager to manage performance through regular feedback, coaching plans and succession planning.
- Organise and deliver regular team training sessions covering product knowledge, premium selling skills, merchandising, inventory control, loss prevention and store operations. Maintain and deliver the store training calendar.
- Support onboarding and development of new starters to ensure they become confident brand ambassadors quickly.
- Drive product storytelling and technical product knowledge to support premium selling and customer confidence.
- Assist with recruitment and selection of store team members, ensuring a fair, inclusive and consistent process aligned to Helly Hansen / Musto standards.
Sales floor and operational standards
- Support staff scheduling to ensure optimal service coverage aligned to trading patterns and commercial priorities.
- Use footfall data and trading insights to plan rotas that maximise conversion and sales performance.
- Act as Manager on Duty, directing daily operations, driving performance and motivating the team.
- Take responsibility for opening and closing the store in line with company policies and procedures.
- Deputise for the Store Manager when required, ensuring continuity of leadership and store standards.
- Support the Store Manager in delivering Health & Safety and Loss Prevention standards.
- Manage daily communication and implementation of the Store Business Plan and KPIs.
- Drive a performance culture by using KPIs (conversion, ATV, UPT, margins, budgets) to coach and motivate the team,
- Monitor performance against budgets to support accurate forecasting and effective cost control.
- Coach and manage in-store visual merchandising to ensure premium presentation in line with Musto VM guidelines.
- Take ownership of store standards and visual impact, creating a commercial and inspiring retail environment.
- Ensure excellent stock availability and replenishment to minimise lost sales and ensure correct RFID stock takes (weekly/biweekly).
- Provide sales insights and customer feedback to the Store Manager to influence future buying and range decisions.
Projects
- Support and lead store meetings to communicate business priorities and provide a forum for training and engagement.
- Communicate clearly with Musto/Helly Hansen HQ, Regional Management, Centre Management and Head Office functions when required.
- Support and lead Pop-Ups, traffic-driving initiatives, in-store events including Partnership & corporate projects as required.
- Support & engage with local marketing activity and community engagement to drive footfall and brand awareness.
- Contribute ideas and innovation to improve customer experience and commercial performance.
The ideal candidate would have:
- Experience in retail clothing store-based role (Essential)
- Experience in Management (Essential)
- Have a good understanding of what constitutes great customer service
- Be aware of common retail Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Be driven to seek continuous improvement and be the best in the business
- Take pride in everything they do and be keen to work to consistently high standards
- Be familiar with word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel and cloud based POS systems)
- An interest in sports and/or outdoor pursuits would be beneficial but not necessary.
This role will require the successful applicant to work some weekends and bank holidays on a variable shift pattern.
