Fitter/Engineer — Full-Time

Key Responsibilities
- Build and install mechanical engineering systems on new build vessels.
- Work collaboratively with other trades to support the vessel build process.

Join one of the UK’s leading marine engineering companies. Work on steel and aluminium projects including new builds, offsite engineering, and custom fabrication. No two days are the same.
The role involves preparing, building, and installing engineering systems on commercial vessels ensuring all work aligns with current drawings, specifications, and industry guidelines.
This role requires experience working in confined spaces and in compliance with marine, safety, and regulatory standards.
Required Knowledge & Experience
- Experience with the installation of new ship equipment, such as propelling machinery, auxiliary systems but not limited to Motors, pumps, compressors and steering gear for new vessel construction.
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering systems, including:
- Hydraulics
- Marine plumbing (grey, black, fresh water)
- Engine, gearbox, and final drive installations
- Familiarity with marine engineering installation requirements.
- Understanding of modern marine engineering technologies.
- Health & Safety awareness within an engineering environment.
Requirements
- Experience as a Fitter, time served.
- Hands-on experience in working with welding tools and materials
- Good understanding of welding techniques and methods of installation and construction
- Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
- Good understanding of basic maths
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Ability to install engineering systems on vessels.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Safe operation of hand, power, and bench-mounted tools, including polishers and grinders.
Additional Requirements
Must be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and on uneven surfaces.
Other information
Competitive industry rate, dependent on skills and experience with 25 days holiday + bank holidays a year, pension, discount voucher scheme. Full time 38 hr week.
Regular opportunity for overtime paid at premium rates.
Must have the right to work in the UK.
