The Role
We are looking for a Chef to join the kitchen brigade at Patrington Haven Leisure Park, working within Guy’s Bar & Restaurant and our wider food and events operation.
This is a hands-on role for a chef who takes pride in their work, enjoys working at pace and understands that teamwork is the absolute key to a successful kitchen.
We are a busy operation serving a quality gastro-pub style menu, with significant seasonal peaks and a varied events calendar throughout the year. From everyday restaurant service to private functions, celebrations and large-scale events, our kitchen team needs to be adaptable, organised and able to work together under pressure.
This is not a leadership position. We are looking for a dependable member of the brigade who will work hard, support their colleagues and make sure their section is consistently ready for service.
What We Are Looking For
Above all else, you must be a team player.
We need someone who understands that in a busy kitchen, every member of the team matters. We want a chef who will not let the rest of the brigade down, who is prepared to muck in when required and who takes responsibility for their own section while supporting the wider kitchen.
You will be expected to:
- Prepare and cook food to our required standards and specifications.
- Maintain a high level of consistency throughout service.
- Keep on top of preparation and ensure your section is fully ready for service.
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, hygiene and organisation.
- Work quickly and efficiently during busy services without compromising standards.
- Communicate effectively with the rest of the kitchen and front-of-house teams.
- Follow recipes, portion specifications, allergen procedures and food safety standards.
- Minimise food waste and use ingredients responsibly.
- Maintain your section throughout service, not just at the end of the shift.
- Help other members of the kitchen brigade when your own section is under control.
- Be flexible and willing to work across different sections of the kitchen when required.
- Remain calm, professional and positive during busy periods.
- Take pride in the food you produce and the environment in which you work.
The Environment
This is a busy, year-round kitchen operation with significant seasonal variation.
Our day-to-day operation centres around a gastro-pub style menu, with fresh food and a strong focus on quality and consistency.
Throughout the year we also host a wide range of events, from smaller private functions of around 50 guests through to major events and music festivals catering for 1,000 people.
No two weeks are necessarily the same, and the ability to adapt to changing volumes and demands is an important part of the role.
The Ideal Candidate
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience working in a professional kitchen.
- A genuine passion for food and hospitality.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a busy kitchen brigade.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work at pace and maintain standards under pressure.
- A good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety.
- A reliable and hardworking attitude.
- The ability to communicate clearly with colleagues.
- A willingness to learn and develop.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to help wherever required.
Most importantly, we are looking for the right attitude.
You don't need to be the loudest person in the kitchen or the most experienced chef in the brigade. You do need to be someone your colleagues can rely on.
Teamwork Is Everything
We cannot stress this enough: teamwork is the absolute key to this role.
We work in a busy environment where every chef has an important part to play. If one section falls behind, it affects the entire kitchen and ultimately affects our guests.
We want chefs who:
Turn up.
Work hard.
Communicate.
Keep their section organised.
Help their colleagues.
Maintain standards.
And don't leave the rest of the team carrying the load.
If that sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.
