Dorset Timber Framing Ltd designs and builds bespoke oak and structural timber framed buildings across the South West. Our projects range from full timber framed homes and extensions to oak framed garages, garden rooms and bespoke structures. We work with high-quality materials including QPA grade oak and structural timber systems. Every project is unique, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern construction techniques.
The Role
We are looking for an Estimator / Assistant Estimator to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone who already has some experience within construction, estimating, quantity surveying, architectural technology, timber frame manufacturing, or a related technical field and is looking to develop their career within a specialist timber framing business.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare estimates and quotations for bespoke timber frame projects
· Carry out take-offs from architectural drawings
· Price labour, materials and subcontract packages
· Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and clients
· Produce clear cost breakdowns and support project planning
· Assist in improving estimating systems and processes
About You
Essential
· 2–5 years experience in construction, estimating, timber frame manufacturing, quantity surveying or a related technical role
· Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
· Good understanding of construction methods and building terminology
· Strong numerical and analytical skills
· Good Excel and IT skills
· Attention to detail and excellent organization skills
· Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Desirable
· Knowledge of timber frame, oak frame or residential construction
· Experience with take-offs and material quantification
· Familiarity with Bluebeam, CostX or similar software. Not currently used but we are considering using a different system.
· Understanding of UK Building Regulations
