We are looking for a creative volunteer to help staff set up and run activity sessions for the people we support at our dementia day centre in Ashton-under-Lyne.
You will consult the people we support to plan a programme of activities in line with their interests, working with staff to ensure activities are inclusive and dementia friendly. You will plan for sessions in advance, preparing any necessary materials and/or equipment. Sessions could include arts and crafts, music, games etc. Most importantly, you will take part in the sessions and engage in conversation with the people we support.
We are looking for a patient and empathetic person with strong communication skills. If this sounds like something you would enjoy and you have a couple of hours to spare on a regular basis, we would love to hear from you!
This role is based at our dementia day centre in Ashton-under-Lyne. The centre offers a variety of activities such as crafts, games and reminiscence chats to engage people we support. The service is easily accessible via public transport.
Volunteer duties:
– Consult people we support to plan engaging activities in line with their interests
– Prepare for activities including set-up, moving tables and chairs if necessary
– Lead and take part in activity sessions, engaging with people we support
– Tidy up after activities, returning the room to normal
– Report any safeguarding concerns to Creative Support staff members
– Understand and work within Creative Support Policies and procedures, respecting boundaries
– Attend regular supervisions with your allocated volunteer supervisor and complete any training provided
Hours: Any day, between 10am-2pm
