Health, Safety and Maintenance Officer – Job Description
Overview:
The Health, Safety and Maintenance Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and safety of employees, visitors, and the overall workplace environment within a manufacturing setting. This hands-on role involves the development, implementation, and maintenance of health and safety programmes, policies, and procedures to comply with national regulations, mitigate workplace hazards, and provide oversight and support for the safe maintenance of factory equipment.
Responsibilities:
· Safety Program Development:
o Develop and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures, in alignment with industry standards and regulations.
o Continuously assess and enhance safety programs to meet evolving needs and compliance requirements.
o Support external yearly audits and action all findings.
· Hazard Identification and Mitigation:
o Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
o Develop strategies and recommendations to eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.
o Ensure the proper use and maintenance of safety equipment.
· Employee Training and Education:
o Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientation and ongoing training sessions.
o Promote a culture of safety by raising employee awareness and encouraging safe work practices.
· Equipment Maintenance Support:
o Implement, support, and monitor planned preventative maintenance activities for factory machinery, tooling, and equipment to help maintain safe and efficient operation.
o Work with production and engineering teams to identify maintenance-related safety concerns and support corrective actions where required.
o Promote safe systems of work during maintenance activities, including the use of appropriate isolation procedures, permits, and records where applicable.
· Incident Management:
o Investigate workplace accidents, near-misses, and incidents.
o Analyse incident reports to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
o Maintain records of incidents, injuries, and safety-related data.
· Regulatory Compliance:
o Stay informed about relevant health and safety regulations and standards.
o Ensure compliance with relevant safety laws.
o Prepare and submit reports as required by regulatory agencies.
· Emergency Response Planning:
o Develop and maintain emergency response plans for the facility.
o Conduct drills and exercises to ensure employees are prepared for emergencies.
o Coordinate with local emergency services as needed.
· Safety Communication:
o Promote safety awareness through regular communication, signage, and safety reminders.
o Collaborate with management to communicate safety goals and objectives to employees.
· Record Keeping:
o Maintain accurate records related to safety programs, training, inspections, and incidents.
o Prepare and submit documentation for internal and external audits.
Skills and Qualifications:
· Qualifications in Health and Safety, either NEBOSH or IOSH.
· Previous experience in health and safety within a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
· Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
· Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Experience of coordinating or supporting factory equipment maintenance, including planned preventative maintenance, is desirable.
· Understanding of safe maintenance procedures, equipment inspections, and basic maintenance record-keeping.
· Proficiency in computer applications related to safety reporting and data management.

Salary & Benefits:
· Salary: £32,000–£35,000 depending on experience
· 31 days holiday, including statutory days.
