About the Role
We are looking for a Services Operative to join our team and play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient and continuous operation of our site services and utilities.
Working across the Starch Kitchen, Boiler House, Water Treatment Plant, Wastepaper Baler and Air Compressors, you will be responsible for monitoring equipment, maintaining operating parameters, carrying out routine checks and responding to faults to support the smooth running of production.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is safety-conscious, mechanically minded and comfortable working independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the Starch Kitchen mixing plant, maintaining the correct viscosity, gel points and transfer of starch to the Corrugator.
- Operate steam boilers and test feed water to ensure safe and continuous operation.
- Monitor and adjust water quality parameters as required.
- Monitor and control wastewater treatment processes, including sump levels, wastewater testing and discharge.
- Maintain required wastewater treatment parameters and clean the filter press when necessary.
- Operate a Forklift Truck to transfer waste bales onto articulated lorry trailers for removal from site.
- Fit coils of baling wire to the wire dispensing spigots on the automatic wastepaper baler.
- Monitor and maintain equipment, carrying out fault finding and basic repairs where appropriate.
- Monitor the operation of site air compressors.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping across all work areas, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
- Monitor levels of starch, fuel oil, caustic soda and other chemicals, reporting any defects, leaks or spillages immediately.
- Supervise the safe offloading of starch from delivery tankers into the storage silo.
- Carry out other duties within the limits of your training, experience and capability.
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.
- Experience working in a services, utilities, manufacturing or industrial environment is advantageous.
- A current FLT Licence.
- A strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and practical fault-finding skills.
- Confidence using hand tools.
- The ability to work independently and take responsibility for tasks.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A self-motivated, reliable and proactive approach to work.
