Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust, the largest mental health Trust in the West Midlands, is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Manual/ People Handling Advisor to support the Health and Safety team in delivering its Health and Safety strategy and ensuring a high level of compliance with relevant legislation and best practice.
You will have experience of working in a clinical environment in the NHS (ideally mental health) or community setting, and have substantial experience of people handling. You may come from a Nursing, Allied Health Professional or similar background, with a sincere interest in supporting people to work safely and to promote excellent people handling practice across the Trust.
This is a key, challenging and rewarding role ideally suited to someone with a real ‘can-do’ and pragmatic approach. You will be part of a small, high-profile team of health and safety professionals, working on your own initiative and supporting our sites, service areas and departments at an operational level to ensure the safety of staff and service users.
Providing advice and guidance to staff, related to manual/ people handling, delivering training, completing relevant risk assessments, reviewing and developing policies and procedures, completing incident investigations, attending relevant meetings and other duties commensurate with the role.
This job is about building great working relationships and a positive health and safety culture with clinicians, managers and staff right across our diverse organisation. Working with them on issue resolution and advising and guiding them on how to work more safely and efficiently.
You will help them balance the requirements of the organisation with best practice by developing and implementing practical, cost effective manual/ people handling systems and solutions, and encouraging behaviours that minimise risk. A persuasive communicator, you will need high levels of enthusiasm combined with good planning and people skills.
We are looking for someone with multi-site experience, with practical knowledge of people/manual handling and health and safety legislation, plus NEBOSH Diploma or a Degree in a related subject (or equivalent qualifications and experience).
