Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and caring Cook to join our team and play a key role in delivering delicious, safe, and nutritious meals for our residents. The ideal candidate will have experience in a care, school, hospital, or similar catering environment and understand how to prepare meals that meet individual dietary requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Meal Preparation & Service
- Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious meals in line with weekly menus and individual dietary requirements.
- Ensure all meals are well-presented, appropriately portioned, and served on time.
- Support themed meals and special occasions (e.g., birthdays, cultural events, holidays).
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Maintain excellent kitchen hygiene and comply with Food Safety Regulations (Food Hygiene Rating Standards).
- Ensure safe food storage, temperature checks, and the correct use of kitchen equipment.
- Follow HACCP procedures and complete all required documentation.
Residents’ Dietary Needs
- Cater for residents with allergies, intolerances, modified texture diets, and cultural preferences.
- Work closely with care staff to understand changing dietary needs.
- Promote a positive dining experience that encourages residents’ independence and enjoyment.
Kitchen Management
- Manage stock levels, complete stock rotation, and minimise waste.
- Place food orders within budget guidelines.
- Keep all kitchen areas clean, tidy, and compliant with infection prevention and control standards.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with other cooks, kitchen assistants, and care staff.
- Communicate effectively to ensure smooth service and high standards.
- Support training and give guidance to new kitchen staff when required.
Requirements
- Previous cooking experience, ideally in a care or catering setting.
- Food Hygiene Level 2 (Level 3 desirable).
- Knowledge of allergens, special diets, and food fortification.
- Ability to work independently and manage a busy kitchen.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Warm, patient, and supportive approach to older people.
