Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Assistant to support the catering team at a care home. This role involves assisting with meal preparation and food service, ensuring high standards of food safety and hygiene. The position is part-time, offering 17 hours per week with overtime opportunities available. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking and experience in a catering or restaurant environment, contributing to the well-being and comfort of our residents through quality food service.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menus
- Support the kitchen team with food preparation tasks, including chopping, assembling, and portioning ingredients
- Ensure all food safety and hygiene standards are maintained at all times
- Help with cleaning kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas to uphold cleanliness standards
- Serve meals to residents in a courteous and professional manner
- Assist with stock control, including receiving deliveries and storing supplies appropriately
- Support the team during busy periods, ensuring smooth meal service operations
- Follow health and safety procedures diligently to create a safe working environment
Requirements
- Previous experience in catering, cooking, or restaurant environments is desirable
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques and culinary practices
- Understanding of food safety regulations and hygiene standards
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail
- Flexibility to work 17 hours per week with potential for overtime
- A friendly attitude with excellent communication skills
- Prior experience serving or working directly with residents or customers is advantageous
