Help lead a vital local service supporting people across Wythenshawe when they need it most.
Wythenshawe Foodbank is looking for a compassionate, organised and practical Foodbank Manager to coordinate our day-to-day operations, support our volunteers and help develop the service for the future.
About us
Wythenshawe Foodbank is an independent charity and part of the Trussell network. Through our central hub and community distribution centres, we provide emergency food and practical support to local people experiencing financial hardship or crisis.
Everyone who comes to us should be welcomed with dignity, empathy and without judgement. Our staff, trustees and dedicated volunteers work closely with local referral agencies, donors, businesses and community organisations to make that happen.
About the role
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will help ensure our foodbank sites operate smoothly, safely and consistently.
This is a varied, hands-on position rather than a purely desk-based management role. One day you might be supporting volunteers at a distribution centre, while the next could involve responding to enquiries, reviewing stock levels, preparing information for trustees or representing the foodbank at a community event.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating day-to-day operations across the foodbank
- Supporting volunteers and working closely with centre supervisors
- Managing the main telephone line and email inbox
- Responding to enquiries professionally and compassionately
- Working with the Warehouse Manager to monitor stock and maintain supplies
- Building relationships with referral agencies, donors and community partners
- Monitoring service data and preparing clear reports for trustees
- Supporting fundraising, outreach and community engagement
- Producing newsletters and managing social media activity
- Maintaining accurate financial and administrative records
- Overseeing health and safety across our locations
- Ensuring compliance with food hygiene, safeguarding and data protection requirements
- Helping maintain the standards required as part of the Trussell network
- Providing operational cover when reasonably required
About you
We are looking for someone who can combine compassion with strong organisational skills. You will be comfortable working with people from a wide range of backgrounds and understand the importance of supporting people experiencing crisis with dignity and respect.
You should be:
- An excellent and empathetic communicator
- Organised, dependable and confident managing competing priorities
- Calm and practical when unexpected problems arise
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider team
- Experienced in coordinating people, projects, services or operations
- Able to build positive relationships with volunteers and community partners
- Confident using digital systems and working with basic performance data
- Willing to take responsibility and get involved wherever needed
- Committed to tackling food poverty and supporting the Wythenshawe community
Experience within a charity, community service, volunteer-led organisation or similar environment would be beneficial. However, we also welcome applicants with relevant transferable experience who can demonstrate the skills and values required.
Why join Wythenshawe Foodbank?
This is an opportunity to take on a genuinely meaningful role where your work will directly support people in the local community. You will work alongside committed volunteers, trustees and partners while helping shape the future of an essential Wythenshawe service.
Wythenshawe Foodbank is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and will make reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process where required.
