As a CGP Product Developer, you’ll develop educational products to grow sales to schools, retailers and private customers. This could mean coming up with an idea to fill a gap in our existing range, introducing new (or improving existing) products in a current market, or identifying a whole new target market.
Working closely with other in-house Product Developers, you’ll understand and be able to champion what makes CGP products so popular. Just as important, you’ll know what won’t fit with our brand.
In this role you’ll:
- Research your target market to understand the needs of our customers
- Analyse sales data to explore market behaviour and identify opportunities for new, profitable publishing
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of competitor products (and our own) to ensure we always stay one step ahead
- Research and propose fully costed product ideas
- Work with in-house Editing, Digital & Design and Sales & Marketing teams to ensure that approved ideas are turned into superb products
You’ll be a graduate with a sound track record in research — this could be a PhD, Masters or from your experience in a relevant role. A background in the publishing industry isn’t necessary. To be considered, you’ll need to be:
- Curious, open-minded and keen to learn – a natural problem solver who enjoys thinking creatively
- Independent and resourceful – a self-starter with the confidence to pursue your own ideas
- Commercially aware – able to evaluate options quickly by simplifying or estimating key figures
- Highly numerate – confident interrogating complex and often incomplete data sets to uncover trends (great Excel skills are a must)
- A great communicator, both verbally and in writing – able to articulate (and debate) your ideas clearly
- An excellent listener – receptive to feedback from colleagues, teachers and pupils
- Flexible – whatever your background, you’ll be comfortable working across all subject areas and age groups within the education system
Ideally, you’ll be able to drive as the role will at times require travel to other sites and to local schools.
- Work for a hugely successful, growing company with a turnover of c.£40m/year
- Based at one of our attractive offices on the edge of the beautiful Lake District National Park
- Part of a company that’s committed to supporting and investing in our local community
- Enjoy all the benefits of our unique company environment – just watch our video to find out more!
And in return, we’ll expect you to work to our incredibly high standards, take ownership of projects and have immense pride in your work.
