- HGV Level 3 Mechanic / Technician Qualification: A minimum Level 3 qualification in HGV Maintenance / Vehicle Maintenance is required.
- Class 1 Licence: A valid HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) driving licence is essential.
- HGV Maintenance Experience: Proven experience maintaining and repairing HGVs and commercial vehicles is required.
- Electrical Experience: Practical vehicle electrical experience is essential.
- Diagnostic & Fault-Finding Skills: Experience with vehicle diagnostics, fault-finding and problem-solving is highly desirable.
- Flexible Working: You must be able to commit to a minimum of 40 hours per week and one of the available shift patterns.
- Team Player: You will be working as part of an experienced team of technicians within a busy fleet operation.
About the Role
We are a family-run business based in Bredbury, Stockport, and due to continued expansion, we are looking for an experienced HGV Mechanical Technician to join our growing maintenance team.
This is a varied role involving the maintenance, inspection and repair of a fleet of HGVs, walking floor vehicles and fleet cars.
You will work as part of a team of technicians while also being responsible for diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and ensuring vehicles are maintained to a high standard and kept roadworthy.
Key ResponsibilitiesFleet Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out planned fleet maintenance and servicing on HGVs, walking floors and fleet cars.
- Complete PMIs (Preventative Maintenance Inspections).
- Carry out reactive maintenance and repairs.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and carry out effective repairs.
- Attend roadside breakdowns and rectify vehicle defects.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed safely and to a high standard.
- Complete all required maintenance and repair paperwork accurately.
MOT Preparation
- Prepare HGVs, walking floors and cabs for MOT testing.
- Identify and rectify defects prior to MOTs.
- Keep accurate records of work carried out.
- Schedule required maintenance and repair work to ensure vehicles are prepared on time.
- Help maintain compliance and vehicle roadworthiness standards.
Diagnostics & Electrical
- Carry out vehicle diagnostics and fault-finding.
- Identify mechanical, electrical and electronic issues.
- Troubleshoot problems efficiently and determine appropriate repairs.
- Use diagnostic equipment where required.
Breakdown & Roadside Support
- Attend roadside breakdowns when required.
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs at the roadside where possible.
- Ensure vehicles are safely returned to service or appropriately recovered where necessary.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an experienced and reliable technician who has:
- A Level 3 HGV / Vehicle Maintenance qualification.
- A valid Class 1 / Category C+E driving licence.
- Strong HGV mechanical maintenance and repair experience.
- Practical vehicle electrical experience.
- Good diagnostic and fault-finding ability.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience preparing commercial vehicles for MOT.
- The ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- A professional, reliable and safety-conscious approach.
- Good attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
Working Hours
A minimum of 40 hours per week, with a choice of shift patterns:
Option 1:
Monday–Thursday – 10 hours per day
Option 2:
Monday–Friday – 6:00 AM–3:00 PM
Overtime is available.
