About the Role:
This is an exciting time to join Great British Energy as it is a new organisation operating in a ‘start-up’ environment. The post-holder will help build the compliance function at GBE.
The role of Knowledge and Information Manager will involve the development and delivery of information governance plans and solutions that fit the needs of the organisation now and into the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- management of Information Rights Requests, including Freedom of Information, Environmental Information Regulations and Data Subject Requests under UK GDPR and Data Protection law;
- maintenance of the wider information rights framework e.g. GBE’s publication scheme;
- developing GBE information handling policies and procedures that support compliant decisions;
- developing GBE’s wider information handling compliance infrastructure e.g. internal review processes; information retention policies; privacy notices and an overall privacy policy;
- monitoring effectiveness of these policies and procedures;
- ensuring information risks are identified, recorded and addressed;
- providing expert advice and guidance in relation to transparency, ICO Codes of Practice, information sharing, and data protection practice;
- working closely with key stakeholders to raise awareness of GBE’s Freedom of Information and transparency obligations, advise on the use of exemptions, and ensure responses are timely and legally compliant;
- acting as a change agent to ensure that information handling during the transition of GBE from DESNZ is supported with robust plans that take account of the evolving context;
- acting as part of the wider compliance function as a team-player, willing to step-in across the function to ensure excellent customer service and delivery;
- promoting and embedding a positive compliance culture
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- experience in leading and managing the development and maintenance of data systems;
- in-depth knowledge and practical experience in data protection, information rights, records management, and information risk;
- experience in an operational information governance management role in the public or private sector;
- experience in managing multi-faceted projects;
- the ability to lead collaboratively, working with a range of stakeholders;
- the ability to develop practical solutions to a range of risk management, compliance and internal control issues;
- an awareness of commercial sensitivities and the ability to handle information discreetly;
- the ability to anticipate and evaluate potential FOI/ EIR, privacy and data protection compliance challenges at an operational level (with reference to wider organisational structures and business processes etc);
- strong inter-personal and communication skills;
- the ability to work flexibly in an evolving context.
Desirable:
- Information / Records Management qualifications (e.g. archives, information science, records management)
- Digital or data-related training, particularly where roles span SharePoint, collaboration platforms, or content migration
- Project or change management training, where KIM roles support migrations or behavioural change
