Dinner Lady / Lunchtime Supervisor - Kingsley Academy
Job Purpose
To prepare and cook nutritious meals for pupils, maintain high standards of food hygiene and kitchen safety, and provide a safe, caring, and positive lunchtime environment for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Additional Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation and Cooking
- Prepare, cook, and serve daily meals and snacks in accordance with school menus and dietary requirements.
- Ensure all food is prepared and presented to a high standard.
- Cater for pupils with allergies, intolerances, and special dietary needs.
- Monitor food stock levels and report shortages to management.
- Assist with ordering food and kitchen supplies where required.
- Ensure food is stored correctly and safely.
Kitchen Hygiene and Safety
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment at all times.
- Follow all Food Standards Agency (FSA) guidance and food hygiene regulations.
- Carry out daily cleaning duties within the kitchen and dining areas.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely and maintained appropriately.
- Complete any required food safety records and documentation.
Additional Essential Requirements Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to prepare and cook meals in a safe and hygienic manner.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety procedures.
- Ability to manage food preparation within set timescales.
Additional Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience working as a school cook, catering assistant, or kitchen assistant.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
- Experience of preparing meals for children or vulnerable individuals.
- Understanding of allergen management and special dietary requirements.
Hours and Duties Example
Working Hours: 10:30am – 2:30pm (4 hours per day)
Typical duties:
- 10:30am – 12:00pm: Food preparation and cooking.
- 12:00pm – 1:30pm: Serving meals and supporting pupils during lunch.
- 1:30pm – 2:30pm: Kitchen cleaning, food storage, and dining area supervision.
Pay: From £65.00 per day
