Overview
Shappen Stores & Cafe is small independently owned business in the small village of Burley, the heart of The New Forest.
Working inside the shop, your day to day role will be to serve customers for both the shop and the post office, as well as stocking up shelves and any other duties necessary for the running of the shop.
Duties
- Greet customers warmly and provide expert advice on gardening products, plants, and horticultural techniques
- Assist with merchandising by arranging displays, restocking shelves, and ensuring the store looks attractive and organized
- Support customers in purchasing products suitable for their needs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store environment
- Support inventory management by tracking stock levels, receiving deliveries, and updating product labels
- Promote special offers, seasonal promotions, and new products to enhance sales opportunities
- Serve customers at the Post Office counter, including cash withdrawals, posting parcels and any other roles that fall into the Post Office remit.
Experience
- Must be at least 18+ (as we sell alcohol and lottery products, this is a must).
- Previous Post Office experience is desirable
- Previous retail experience is essential
- Passion for customer service
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with customers and team members
- Excellent organizational skills to manage stock, displays, and store cleanliness efficiently
- Previous retail experience is advantageous but not required; enthusiasm for learning is key
- Ability to work flexibly during store hours, including weekends or peak seasons
- Burley is not well connected via public transport, so you must be able to get yourself to & from us.
