About the role
Balfour Beatty is looking to recruit a Quantity Surveyor (QS) to support the Scottish Power framework, covering the Central Belt of Scotland. The role will involve working across projects within this region.
The successful candidate will have several years’ experience managing all costs and income within their area of responsibility on building and civil engineering projects. The role may include line management of less experienced commercial staff and supporting more senior team members in the delivery of a wide range of commercial duties. The QS will also be responsible for procuring and managing the supply chain.
A key focus of the role is to actively minimise project costs and maximise value for money, while ensuring the required standards and quality are delivered for our customers.
Typically, a Quantity Surveyor will be chartered, or working towards chartership, with a recognised professional body such as RICS, ICES or CIOB. They will act as a role model for less experienced members of the commercial team and will maintain their Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
What you'll be doing
- Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s governance requirements (BMS & GMCEs)
- Use the company’s ERP and Digital Systems
- Orders information and systematically checks data
- Measure, record & value work unsupervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures
- Preparation of Cost reconciliation statements
- Measure & interpret works information, specifications & drawings and prepare Bills of Quantities and Schedules of rates.
- Build up estimates from first principle including net and gross estimates Measurement of works and agreements with subcontractors
- Review weekly, monthly, section programmes of works
- Plan commercial activities to meet requirements of section programmes
- Collation of Cost and Value Information
- Understanding of the Customer Contract and undertakes customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility
- Have an understanding of delay and disruption programmes
- Collect information required to specify procurement requirements
- Record and document information including registration of interest
- Understand the steps / documentation required
- Manage and Adjudicate Subcontract Enquiries
Who we're looking for
- Relevant construction or business degree (or equivalent).
- Working towards or holding a post‑degree qualification (e.g., RICS).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong computer literacy.
- Experience in construction.
- NEC contract experience.
Desirable
- Experience within the build sector: education, accommodation, or commercial construction.
