Davies Crane Hire Ltd is a respected name in lifting solutions and specialist transport, delivering reliable crane hire and heavy haulage services across the UK. Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Transport Manager with a strong background in heavy haulage and abnormal loads to join our team.
The Role
As Transport Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing and managing our fleet operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of heavy and abnormal loads. You will be responsible for leading, planning and scheduling our transport team and maintaining the highest operational standards in line with industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day transport operations, including planned and reactive movements
- Coordinate heavy haulage and abnormal load movements, including route planning and escort requirements
- Ensure full compliance with Operator’s Licence (O-Licence) regulations and transport legislation
- Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, and defect reporting
- Liaise with clients, site managers, and authorities to coordinate transport and lifting operations
- Manage drivers, including scheduling, training, and performance
- Monitor fleet efficiency, fuel usage, and operational costs
- Maintain accurate transport records and documentation
- Promote and enforce company health & safety policies
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in a Transport Manager role within heavy haulage or specialist transport
- Strong knowledge of abnormal loads and crane-related logistics
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) – Transport Manager qualification
- Excellent understanding of UK transport regulations and O-Licence compliance
- Experience managing drivers and transport teams
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple operations simultaneously
Desirable
- Experience within the crane hire industry
- Knowledge of STGO regulations and route planning software
- Strong leadership and communication skills
