Purpose and objectives of the role
As a CNC Machinist, you will work within our Toolroom team to develop and foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, collaboration, and high performance.
You will be responsible for using expert knowledge to operate and control numerically controlled (CNC) machines. Where feasible, use knowledge of relevant programming languages and input them into CNC machines for production, while ensuring products have precise and accurate measurements.
You will be keen to take on challenges, develop your technical skills, knowledge and career potential as well as expand your knowledge and experience through a variety of exciting initiatives
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery and cost performance.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for producing quality parts on CNC machines in a timely, safe and efficient manner.
- Perform set-up changes, operate, and conduct first article inspections on production runs.
- Load parts, prove programs, operate controls, set offsets, make simple edits, deburr, and inspect quality parts for conformance to requirements.
- Identify problems prior to production runs, then start and observe machine operation to detect any other malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, quality standards and inspection requirements.
- Read engineering drawings, precision measuring instruments and job orders to determine dimensions, tolerance, and tooling requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of dimensions and tolerances for tooling instructions such as feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and cutting tools to be used.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
- Undertake relevant cross-division training to develop technical competence, capability, and problem-solving skills
- Support customer visits, audits, and undertake resolution activities to ensure customer satisfaction and delivery performance objectives are achieved
- Support the Division's Apprenticeship programme by mentoring and encouraging the ongoing learning of the company’s Apprentices.
- Comply with all Health & Safety procedures, safe systems of work, risk assessments and PPE requirements.
- Immediately report hazards, accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions
- Collaborate with colleagues to support the implementation of company policies, objectives, quality standards, and Health & Safety requirements in accordance with company procedures and relevant legislation.

- Maintain time and attendance to company standards.
- Ensure General housekeeping within the division is maintained.

Qualifications
- Time-served apprenticeship within a CNC machinist discipline, equivalent to either City and Guilds Level 3, or NVQ Level 3 (essential).
- ONC/HNC in Mechanical and Production Engineering (desirable).

Working hours
- 37.5 hours, Monday - Friday
- 2 Shift pattern.
- Early Shift Monday to Thursday 06:00-14:00, Friday 06:00-11:30- (25-minute paid break)
- Back Shift Monday to Thursday 14:00-22:00, Friday 11:30-17:00 (25-minute paid break)
Experience
- Operating a variety of CNC machines (essential).
- Time-served apprenticeship in CNC Machining (essential).
- Experience operating CNC machinery (essential).
- Ability to read engineering drawings (essential).
- Use of measuring equipment. (essential).
- Familiarity with working within a high productivity machine shop environment (essential).
- CNC programming knowledge on Fanuc controls (desirable).
- Manual Machining Experience (desirable).
- Multi Axis CNC Machining Experience (desirable).
