WHY YOU'RE HERE
You're here to support our team in running excellent cookery classes, and quickly begin a path to teaching your own.
You'll assist the Teaching Chefs throughout the day to day running of the school. As you gain exposure to classes, you'll quickly begin teaching them yourself. Your love of food and passion for people will ensure every guest has an excellent experience with us. Your drive and hunger will ensure shifts are run professionally and efficiently.
Performing this role excellently will serve as the perfect training and preparation to fulfil your ambition - becoming a fully fledged Teaching Chef.
WHAT YOU'RE HERE TO DO
Each shift will carry a wide range of demands and responsibilities that will require sound multitasking. Organisation is critical to every shift, and to your role in general. As is a calm demeanour, and working with a sense of urgency. These qualities are required to perform your role excellently, and to develop into a Teaching Chef.
As Junior Teaching Chef there are five key pillars of your role:
Excellent Food Preparation
One important part of your day will be to prepare the food for our classes, this will require:
-
A natural cooking ability. A solid understanding of flavour, dishes and techniques.
- Sticking to run plans. The ability to follow run plans or instructions given, and deliver with reliability. As you gain experience, you'll be expected to grasp and learn the details of our run plans.
Attention to detail. The food preparation is rarely complex - most cooking will happen in the class. However it requires diligence - as mistakes in the preparation will disrupt the class.
-
Excellent Operation
From the kitchen into the classes, you'll keep things clean, organised and in control:
-
Kitchen management: Sound putting-away of all deliveries in an organised manner, following FIFO, and treating all food with care. Keeping the fridges clean, organised and following food hygiene standards. Generally, keeping the kitchen clean and organised.
- Lesson assistance: Supporting the Teaching Chef in classes is a crucial part of your role. Helping (and contributing) to demonstrations. Supporting guests as they cook. Clearing and organising the classroom if it gets unordered.
Turnarounds and closes: Supporting the Teaching Chef in turnarounds between classes. Everything from clearing down, to setting up the new class, and resetting the hosting station. As for closes, shutting down the school with incredible attention to detail. Eventually, you'll be able to turnaround and close independently.
-
Teaching Classes
You'll start to pick up the ability to teach your own classes. In addition to the above, this will require:
-
People skills: a winning way with all of our customers. Confident, charming and positive.
- Communication and presentational skills: You'll demonstrate great potential as a communicator and presenter. Your energy and charisma will lift a group of people and a room. You'll enjoy demonstrating to large groups, and be able to think-fast, responding to live questions.
-
Welcoming & Hosting: Our experiences are excellent from start to finish - not just for the teaching. You'll have an eye for detail and for the whole experience. You'll be confident welcoming guests to our school. You'll be confident taking drink orders and serving our guests, delivering excellent customer service throughout.
