Hours: 7.5 hours per day, Full-time, including weekend days on a rota basis
Salary: Starting from £29,000
Job Overview
Homeleigh Garden Centre is looking for an experienced and motivated Homeware & Furniture Department Manager to oversee our Homeware, Kitchenware, Indoor Furniture, and Outdoor Living departments.
This is a key leadership role with responsibility for sales performance, stock management, team supervision, and high-quality visual merchandising. We are looking for someone commercially minded, creative, and confident leading a small team in a fast-paced retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
Department Management
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the Homeware, Kitchenware, Indoor and Outdoor Living departments
- Maintain high standards of presentation, cleanliness, and organisation
- Ensure departments are fully stocked, well merchandised, and commercially effective
Sales & Commercial Performance
- Deliver excellent customer service and product knowledge
- Drive sales and maximise margins across all departments
- Monitor sales performance and react to trends
Buying & Stock Control
- Ordering stock and managing suppliers
- Maintaining appropriate stock levels
- Managing sell-through, seasonal changes, and promotions
Team Leadership
- Manage, support, and motivate a small team
- Assist with training and development
- Lead by example on the shop floor
Visual Merchandising & Displays
- Create attractive, creative displays to inspire customers
- Refresh layouts regularly to reflect seasons, trends, and promotions
- Use creativity to maximise space and visual impact
Requirements
- Previous experience in a retail management or supervisory role (homeware, furniture, lifestyle, or similar preferred)
- Strong sales focus with a commercial mindset
- Creative flair and an eye for visual merchandising and displays
- Confident managing stock, ordering, and margins
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Hands-on approach and willingness to work on the shop floor
