The Role
We are seeking a warm, committed and enthusiastic Assistant Houseparent (Live‑In) to join the boarding team at our independent school in Scotland. This is a residential role and forms a vital part of the school’s pastoral provision, supporting pupils in a welcoming, structured and nurturing boarding environment.
Working closely with the Houseparent, you will help provide a safe, caring and well‑organised home‑from‑home, supporting pupils’ wellbeing, routines and personal development throughout the school week and at designated weekends.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the daily operation of the boarding house, including morning, evening and bedtime routines
- Live on site and be available to pupils as a responsible and approachable adult
- Provide high‑quality pastoral care and support pupils’ emotional and social wellbeing
- Supervise pupils during free time, meals, study periods and activities
- Assist with behaviour management in line with school policies
- Help maintain a calm, positive and inclusive boarding environment
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and senior boarding staff
- Keep appropriate records and follow safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Assist with weekend duties and boarding activities on a rota basis

The successful candidate will:
- Have a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people
- Be patient, resilient and able to build positive, professional relationships
- Enjoy working as part of a close residential team
- Be well organised with strong communication skills
- Be flexible and comfortable with the demands of a live‑in role
- Have experience working with young people (education, care, youth or residential settings)
Qualifications & Safeguarding
- Relevant childcare, education or pastoral qualifications are advantageous
- Registration with SSSC or the willingness to work towards it
- Appointment is subject to PVG Scheme membership and satisfactory references
- All staff are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection
