Public & Green Space Mechanical Operator – Exeter, Devon

Location: Exeter, Devon
Join a team dedicated to keeping Exeter’s parks and public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming. We’re looking for skilled Public & Green Space Mechanical Operators to carry out a range of cleansing and grounds maintenance tasks across the city.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform vegetation management including grass cutting, hedge trimming, and pruning
- Operate powered pedestrian and handheld equipment for shrub bed maintenance and weed control
- Remove graffiti using chemicals or mechanical equipment
- Carry out mechanical street sweeping
- Maintain sports pitches, tennis courts, and other outdoor facilities
- Empty litter bins, clear weeds and overgrowth, and clean public restrooms as required
- Identify and report maintenance issues (e.g., fly-tipping, damaged furniture, stray animals)
- Communicate professionally with the public, answering queries or reporting concerns
- Follow safe working practices and take part in relevant equipment training
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in grounds maintenance or outdoor manual work
- Basic understanding of health and safety in the workplace
- Ability to operate or willingness to be trained on mechanical equipment (weed spraying, sweepers, etc.)
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather
- Team player with good communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to manage tasks independently
- Basic literacy, numeracy, and confidence using mobile devices
- Smart appearance and flexible to work outside of standard hours if required
- Full UK driving license required
