Operations Manager Industrial and Commercial Cleaning
Salary: £35,000 per annum + Performance Bonus Scheme
Location: Hull – Travelling to different sites will be required

Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and driven Operations Manager to oversee a portfolio of industrial cleaning contracts, ensuring the highest standards of service delivery, safety, and customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will manage multiple sites, lead operational teams, maintain strong client relationships, and drive business performance across the region.
This is a hands-on management role requiring excellent organisational skills, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to delivering outstanding results in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Oversee the day-to-day delivery of industrial cleaning contracts across multiple customer sites.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to agreed service levels.
- Plan labour, equipment, and resources to maximise productivity and profitability.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality audits.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, customer requirements, and industry regulations.
Customer Relationship Management
- Manage a portfolio of key customer accounts.
- Act as the primary point of contact for operational issues and service reviews.
- Build and maintain strong long-term relationships with clients.
- Identify opportunities to upsell additional services and support business growth.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and support supervisors and cleaning operatives.
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, and training of staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and regular team meetings.
- Handle disciplinary, absence, and employee welfare matters in line with company policies.
- Promote a positive and accountable working culture.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all activities comply with Health & Safety legislation and company standards.
- Carry out site risk assessments and method statement reviews.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Monitor training records and maintain compliance documentation.
- Drive a strong safety-first culture across all operations.
Financial & Commercial Performance
- Manage contract budgets and labour costs.
- Monitor productivity and operational KPIs.
- Support invoicing and contract administration processes.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
- Contribute towards achieving company revenue and profit targets.
Business Development & Growth
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within existing and prospective customer accounts.
- Build relationships with decision-makers across target industries to generate leads and expand the company's customer base.
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and customer meetings to understand requirements and present tailored service solutions.
- Prepare quotations and support tender submissions alongside senior management.
- Work closely with clients to identify additional service requirements and upselling opportunities.
- Represent the company professionally at networking events, industry meetings, and customer reviews.
- Achieve agreed sales and business development targets, contributing to the overall growth strategy of the business.
- Maintain an active pipeline of opportunities and provide regular updates on business development activities.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in an Operations Manager, Contracts Manager, or similar role.
- Experience managing teams within industrial cleaning, facilities management, waste management, manufacturing support services, or related industries.
- Strong customer relationship management skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work flexibly and travel between customer sites.
Desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent qualification.
- Experience managing industrial cleaning contracts.
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
- Experience of budgeting and financial management.
- CPC, NEBOSH, or other relevant industry qualifications.
