Overview
We are looking for a reliable, practical and customer-focused person to join the team at our vacuum cleaner repair and retail store in Northampton.
This is a varied, hands-on role with cleaning and preparing vacuum cleaners and their components making up a significant part of the job, alongside serving customers, dealing with enquiries and helping them find the correct spare parts.
Our cleaning and workshop activities take place within the store, so you will be working in an environment where customers, stock and practical work are all part of the same space.
Duties
- Cleaning and preparing used vacuum cleaners and their components
- Using electrical and manual equipment to thoroughly clean used vacuum cleaner parts
- Sorting, checking and preparing cleaned parts and equipment

- Assisting in basic repair work
- Assisting with general workshop and preparation tasks
- Serving customers in-store and providing friendly, helpful service
- Taking customer enquiries in person and by telephone
- Processing sales and handling payments
- Receiving, sorting and organising stock
- Keeping accurate records of work carried out

- Following health and safety procedures when working with cleaning equipment and machinery

- Practical and happy getting their hands dirty
- Comfortable spending a significant amount of their working day detailing vacuum cleaners
- Friendly, approachable and comfortable dealing with customers
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking
- Organised and able to pay attention to detail
- Computer literate and comfortable using computer-based systems
- Comfortable learning about different vacuum cleaners, parts and accessories
- Happy working in a customer-facing environment where practical work is carried out in plain view
- A good team player with a positive attitude
- Willing to learn and develop new skills
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical, physical work as well as interacting with customers. You don't need to be an expert in vacuum cleaners - we will provide training - but you do need to be willing to learn, take pride in your work and pay attention to detail.
If you're hands-on, hardworking, friendly, organised, and willing to learn, we'd love to hear from you.
