Urban Design & Developments Ltd is a privately owned group of specialist construction companies based in Clay Cross, Chesterfield. Established in 1998, the business comprises four divisions:
- Street Structures – Architectural metalwork including glass canopies, shelters, walkways, balustrades and bespoke steel structures.
- Urban Facades – Aluminium curtain walling, windows and doors.
- Urban Windows Doors & Conservatories – UPVC windows and doors.
- UMG (Unique Metal & Glass) – Specialist structural glazing systems for high-end projects.
With a combined turnover of circa £8 - 10 million, we continue to grow despite the current economic climate by delivering high-quality projects, exceptional service and reliable workmanship across the UK.
Due to continued growth within our Street Structures division, we are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Welder / Fabricator to join our fabrication team.

The Role
You will be involved in the fabrication and welding of bespoke architectural metalwork projects, working to a high standard on a wide variety of steel, stainless steel and aluminium structures.
The role will include:
- MIG welding and fabrication. If you also have TIG experience (Stainless and / or Aluminium) that would also be a big advantage.
- Reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings
- Fabricating accurately with minimal supervision
- Quality checking completed work
- Working on bespoke and development projects
- Fabrication of profiled and curved tube sections
Skills & Experience Required
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in MIG welding
- Able to fabricate to a high standard
- Competent reading technical and fabrication drawings
- Experienced working within a fabrication or architectural metalwork environment
- Reliable, hardworking and motivated
- Organised with good time management
- A strong team player with a positive attitude
Experience welding stainless steel and aluminium would be advantageous but is not essential.
Working Hours
40 hours per week:
- Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
- Friday: 8:00am – 2:30pm
Regular overtime available for those who want it.
