Job Description:
The Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing all workshop operations, ensuring a safe, efficient, and cost-effective working environment. The role acts as a key liaison between operations, the workshop team, and site operatives, ensuring clear communication, asset control, and operational continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage, and coordinate workshop scheduling, maintenance activities, and resource allocation.
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, quality standards, and statutory requirements.
- Ensure proper returns procedure is place for used plant & tools.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance programmes to minimise equipment downtime and breakdowns.
- Lead the implementation and operational rollout of the new Asset Management System, Asset Tiger, ensuring accurate tracking and reduced loss of equipment.
- Improve asset traceability, including testing equipment, to strengthen accountability and control through Asset Tiger.
- Complete booking in/ out procedure at front of house.
- Oversee and coordinate workshop operations, ensuring effective communication between site operatives, the workshop team, and operations managers where required.
- Implement a new hire tracking system to control and monitor all hired in plant & tools, and control losses. Hire Tracker.
- Lead, mentor, and train workshop personnel to maintain high standards of performance and competence.
- Manage workshop budgets and identify opportunities for cost control and efficiency improvements.
Performance Measures
- Measurable reduction in equipment downtime.
- Improved tracking and reduction of safety incidents.
- Increased workshop productivity and faster job turnaround times.
- Improved asset and testing equipment traceability through system implementation.
Development & Monitoring
- Performance reviews where needed to assess objectives and operational effectiveness with staff.
- Install new PAT Testing area to help reduce and split both Van stock and day-2-day stock.
- Ongoing leadership, compliance, and technical training to support role development.
