Stein Inn on the beautiful, Isle of Skye is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Chef to join our busy, thriving and successful all year-round business.
About Us
Stein Inn - the oldest Inn on the Isle of Skye - a restaurant, a pub, sea view bedrooms is a personal project by owner Charlie who has been very hand on hands on – along with her young kids. She has worked every aspect of the Inn and the last few years has been Head Chef. She has turned the kitchen around and now Stein In is recognised as a destination place and a foodie destination. The last years and recently - Jan 2025 media attention - The Sunday Times/Times, Delicious, The Herald, BritishTravel Journal, Vogue, Hidden Scotland
The kitchen focuses on shellfish – all sustainable - crabs, lobster, langoustines, mussels from Lochbay opposite – some of the best in the world of ingredients and from directly opposite and delivered daily. Wild venison, duck and Scottish game all local produce, as well as fresh wild fish, bass, bream, sole monkfish. There are few places that have this. Local produce served simply - less is more. taste the lobster, and crab etc, cooked with love and passion. There is a Michelin star restaurant next door - Lochbay voted Scotland's best restaurant 2024 - Chef Michael Smith and we work with them as they are family friends.
The Inn is open 7 x days a week for lunch and dinner. The Inn is very busy, especially evenings and running a busy pass and organisation would be ideal
We are a small, close team and we recruit whole people, not just job titles. We will give you what you need to flourish. In return we need some solid hospitality skills. We want people ready to contribute to a proper Team; to put the wellbeing of everyone else on a par with their own personal needs. Compassionate, kind and creative individuals do well at Stein Inn.
The Inn is the hub of the community as well as tourists and in the peak season we can do 100 covers a night with 30 plus for lunch and we are still busy until Jan 1– it has a good vibe to it with music and various events – Charlies background is events and music festivals. The pub serves local beers, 180 whiskies, gins etc and there is also outside dining with sunsets and views of the Outer Hebrides and wild swimming.
Guests come all over the world and fall in love with this hidden gem. It has a vibe and is cosy, log fires and candles and great atmosphere. Isle of Skye is extremely busy and is very well known for restaurants and the food scene.
The role is live in and on site accommodation is provided.
We are seeking a skilled Cook/ Chefto join our culinary team and prepare delicious meals that align with our menu offerings. In this role, you will be responsible for crafting dishes that align to our ethos of honest and authentic dishes a taste of Skye. We are inspired by the nature that surrounds us and out menu is sea meets land.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to follow detailed cooking instructions and deliver well-prepared meals consistently. You should be adept at navigating the kitchen environment efficiently and excel in multi-taskingand managing the very busy pass as we can do up to 120 covers per evening, to manage various food orders simultaneously. Experience with a variety of ingredients and cooking techniques is essential to meet our high standards.

Responsibilities
As a cook, you will play a vital role in the kitchen, ensuring that every dish meets the highest standards of quality and presentation. Your responsibilities will include:
- Ingredient Management: Ensure that all ingredients and final products are fresh by regularly checking their quality and freshness. Handle and store ingredients properly to maintain their integrity.
- Recipe Adherence: Follow recipes meticulously. However, you can also play a part in recipe development.
- Cooking Techniques
- Food Presentation
- Food Service: Occasionally serve food to guests, ensuring a pleasant dining experience.
- Work Area Maintenance: Maintain a clean and safe work environment by handling utensils, equipment, and dishes responsibly. Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils regularly.
- Food Safety Compliance: Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards to ensure the health and safety of all food served.
- Station Setup: Set up workstations with all necessary ingredients and cooking equipment to facilitate efficient food preparation.
- Inventory Monitoring: Monitor station inventory levels and check for shortages, placing orders for supplies as needed to ensure continuous operation.
- Collaboration: Assist other cooks in completing food orders in a timely manner and efficiently resolve any issues with customer orders.
- Quality Control: Ensure that food portions and presentation meet company standards, and store excess food at the correct temperature to avoid spoilage.
By fulfilling these responsibilities, you will contribute to a well-functioning kitchen that delivers exceptional dining experiences to guests.
Requirements and skills
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a line cook or in a similar culinary role is preferred.
- Strong culinary skills with a solid understanding of various cooking techniques.
- Exceptional attention to detail in food presentation, flavor, and consistency.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented kitchen environment.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices is essential.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and evenings.
- A positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a genuine passion for culinary arts.
- ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire (for certain positions)
Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of safety procedures, including safe food storage and preparation temperatures.
- Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate on complex dishes.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with waitstaff, management, and other kitchen personnel.
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
- Accountability for the quality of dishes prepared, ensuring they meet both management and customer expectations.
- Strong comprehension and organizational skills to accurately follow recipes and directives.
