Job Description

To support this mission, Syngenta’s Hiring Team is seeking an Onsite Engineering Planner in Huddersfield, UK.
Role Overview
Responsible for planning, scoping, and delivering detailed work packages for routine maintenance and planned outages across electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, and civil disciplines. The role requires regular attendance at the job face to gather accurate, first-hand information that underpins well-defined and executable job scopes. Acting as the key link between engineering, operations, and contractors, the post holder ensures all activities are fully scoped, resourced ahead of scheduling, scheduled, and aligned with site safety and production requirements.
Key responsibilities

Attend the job face across electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, and civil disciplines to gather first-hand information and develop accurate, complete job scopes.

Prepare detailed work packages including task sequences, resource plans, materials, drawings, isolation plans, risk assessments, and permit requirements.

Build and maintain master plan for routine maintenance (3-month rolling schedule) and planned outages, identifying critical path activities and cross-functional dependencies.

Coordinate with Asset Engineers, Operations, Project teams, and Contractors to integrate maintenance, cleanout, and commissioning activities through to execution.

Manage CMMS data (SAP), maintaining accurate work orders, task lists, equipment histories, and resource requirements.

Lead weekly scheduling meetings and report on schedule adherence, critical paths, and resource utilisation.

Liaise with stores and procurement to ensure parts, consumables, and specialist tools are available ahead of scheduled work.

Review job plans post-execution, driving continuous improvement in planning quality and contributing to reliability programmes.
Qualifications

Minimum 5 years’ experience in maintenance planning or engineering within chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, or a heavy process industry.

Proven experience planning across at least two of the following disciplines: electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, or civil engineering.

Demonstrated experience in shutdown, turnaround, or outage planning, including the development of detailed job lists, execution schedules, and work packages.

Proven proficiency in CMMS systems, specifically SAP Plant Maintenance, including work order management, equipment history, and task list maintenance.

Strong working knowledge of scheduling methodologies and tools (e.g. Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Prometheus).

Familiarity with engineering documentation such as P&IDs, equipment drawings, and specifications.

Knowledge of permit-to-work systems, risk assessment processes, and site safety procedures.

Experience in stakeholder management across multiple functions

Highly organised, able to manage multiple scopes simultaneously under time pressure.

HNC/HND in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
