Workshop Operative (Materials & Processing)
Yoke Vans (Yoke CNC Ltd) — Borehamwood, WD6 5PH £26,000 – £30,000 per year (depending on experience) (placeholder — confirm band) Full-time, Permanent
About the Role
We're looking for a hands-on Workshop Operative to join our growing team, focused on materials processing and workshop support.
The core of the role is processing our plywood — operating our heavy-duty wood chipper to process offcuts and waste material, and finishing plywood parts (chamfering, sanding, edge work) using power tools. Beyond that, this is a varied workshop role: you'll support the wider team with assembly, dispatch, moving materials, and general workshop duties as priorities shift day to day.
This is a practical, physical role that suits someone who takes pride in doing straightforward work well, keeps a safe and tidy working area, and is happy to turn their hand to whatever the workshop needs.
Primary Duties
- Operating our heavy-duty wood chipper to process plywood waste and offcuts (full training provided).
- Processing and finishing plywood parts using power tools (chamfering, sanding, edge finishing).
- Moving materials and parts around the workshop, including by forklift (training and in-house certification provided).
- Assisting with assembly of plywood van racking components and finished goods.
- Assisting with running parts on CNC machines under guidance.
- Preparing, wrapping, and dispatching customer orders.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised workspace — everyone contributes.
- Supporting colleagues and jumping in where needed as priorities shift.
What We're Looking For
- Comfortable with sustained physical, hands-on work, including lifting and handling sheet materials and operating heavy-duty machinery (full training and PPE provided).
- Experience with power tools preferred; workshop, warehouse, or similar practical experience is an advantage.
- An existing counterbalance forklift licence is an advantage but not required — we train and certify in-house.
- A safety-first mindset and respect for machinery and procedures.
- A positive, proactive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliability — this role keeps material flowing for the whole workshop.
What We Offer
- Salary depending on experience.
- Paid overtime.
- Company pension.
- Free on-site parking.
- Full training on all machinery and equipment, including forklift certification.
- Opportunities to develop with a fast-expanding company.
Work Schedule
- Full-time, Monday to Friday.
- Working hours may be on a staggered shift pattern to support workshop operations.
- Occasional weekend work may be required.
- Appointment is subject to a probationary period (six months).
