We’re looking for an experienced and highly organised Burger Chef to lead our burger kitchen at The Old Eastway Tap on Easter Road.
This is a one-chef kitchen, meaning you’ll be solely responsible for running service, maintaining the highest standards of food quality, cleanliness, and organisation, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the kitchen.
The Old Eastway Tap is a busy Leith pub with a popular burger menu loved by the locals.
The Role
This position is more than just cooking; it’s about taking ownership of the kitchen and ensuring it runs efficiently and professionally every single day.
You will:
- Run the kitchen independently, from prep to close.
- Maintain impeccable cleanliness and organisation, this is an open kitchen, visible to customers.
- Cook fresh, high-quality burgers and sides to order in a fast-paced pub setting.
- Create occasional specials and contribute ideas for improving menus and kitchen efficiency.
- Conduct regular stock takes, keep accurate records, and work closely with the General Manager to oversee ordering, cost control, and overall kitchen efficiency.
- Uphold strict food safety, hygiene, and due diligence standards.
- Take responsibility for maintaining strong margin performance by managing stock smartly, using ingredients efficiently, and keeping waste to an absolute minimum.
- Problem-solve on the fly, ensuring smooth service even at the busiest times.
What We’re Looking For
- We need someone who brings both kitchen experience and leadership qualities.
- Proven experience in a fast-paced kitchen.
- A calm, professional approach under pressure.
- Strong organisation and self-management skills, this is a one-chef kitchen.
- Clean, professional presentation, the kitchen is an open kitchen and must look presentable to our customers during service and so must you.
- Strong grasp of stock control, cost management, and ordering processes.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene certification (preferred, but training can be provided).
- A reliable, hard-working attitude and genuine pride in delivering great food.
The Details
- Full-time – approximately 40 hours per week.
- £15.00 per hour
- Level 2 Food Safety preferred (training provided if needed).
- 3-month probation period.
- Free staff meal on shift and a pint after your shift.
