Role Purpose
The Transport Coordinator/Manager is responsible for planning, booking and controlling the movement of inbound and outbound loads across Chorley, Flint and Wrexham ensuring throughput is and delivered as promised.
The role is currently weighted towards third-party haulage coordination with the Group looking to expand and develop its own in-house transport fleet across both sites in the near future. The postholder should therefore be comfortable coordinating a mixed fleet (in-house and third-party) and adaptable as in-house capability grows.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise daily with General Managers, customers and third-party hauliers to determine how many loads are due in and how many need booking out
- Plan and confirm onward disposal outlets/destinations for outgoing loads
- Book and coordinate third-party haulage — predominantly walking floor trailers and tippers
- Ensure all throughput is collected and delivered on time, as promised to customers and outlets
- Book scrap collections as required
- Coordinate transport of recoverables
- Book in and track all loads
- Liaise and coordinate directly with all sites
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date transport records/schedules across all sites (loads booked, collected, delivered, outstanding)
- Support the planning and development of in-house transport capability
- Resolve day-to-day transport, scheduling and haulier issues, escalating where necessary
- Work within relevant waste carrier, duty of care and permit requirements when booking movements
Person Specification
Experience:
- Experience in a transport planning/coordination role, ideally within waste, recycling or bulk haulage
- Working knowledge of walking floor trailers, tippers and RO-RO/drag operations
- Experience liaising with third-party hauliers and managing haulage bookings
- Experience working with waste transfer/disposal documentation is an advantage
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and coordinate multiple loads/sites concurrently
- Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively with General Managers, customers, hauliers and site teams
- Problem-solver, able to react quickly to changing daily transport requirements
- IT literate — comfortable using transport/booking systems and record-keeping tools
- Flexible and adaptable, with the capacity to take on a dual-site role as the position develops
- Willing to travel between Chorley, Flint and Wrexham as required
Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
