Are you an experienced and passionate chef looking for that rare hospitality unicorn - a busy kitchen role with genuinely sociable hours and no late nights?
The Potting Shed Restaurant at Woodbank Garden Centre in Harden, near Bingley, is looking for a driven, enthusiastic and experienced Sous Chef to join our fantastic kitchen team.
We're looking for someone with plenty of "get up and go", who takes pride in their work, enjoys being part of a busy kitchen and, importantly, has the experience and confidence to step up and lead the team when our Head Chef is away.
This isn't an entry-level chef position. We're looking for someone with at least 4 years' genuine experience in the same or a similar role, who understands what it takes to keep a busy professional kitchen organised, efficient and running to a consistently high standard.
What We're Looking For
Our ideal Sous Chef will:
- A minimum of 4 years' professional kitchen experience
- Previous experience at Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef or an equivalent supervisory role
- Be confident taking responsibility for the kitchen and leading the team in the Head Chef's absence
- Have excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Communicate clearly and professionally with the Head Chef, kitchen team and front-of-house team
- Be able to conduct stock checks and place orders, helping to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained
- Supervise and support Line and Prep Cooks, ensuring dishes are prepared according to the Head Chef's specifications, recipes and standards
- Help maintain consistently high standards of food quality, presentation and portion control
- Monitor the kitchen and team to ensure excellent cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation standards are maintained at all times
- Ensure food products and ingredients are correctly stored, labelled, dated and rotated
- Ensure products being prepared and served are within their use-by/best-before dates and fit for use
- Follow and help enforce food safety, allergen procedures
- Help manage stock rotation and minimise unnecessary food waste
- Remain calm, organised and positive during busy service periods
- Be a genuine team player who is willing to get stuck in and lead by example

About The Potting Shed Restaurant
The Potting Shed Restaurant is situated within Woodbank Garden Centre in Harden, near Bingley.
We're a busy daytime restaurant welcoming garden centre customers throughout the week for breakfast, lunch, light bites, coffee and cake.
The restaurant can get extremely busy, particularly at weekends and during our peak garden centre seasons, so we're looking for someone who enjoys the buzz of a busy kitchen and can help keep everything running smoothly when the pressure is on.
Getting Here
Woodbank Garden Centre is in a beautiful semi-rural location in Harden, near Bingley, so having your own transport is ideal.
However, if you rely on public transport, bus services are available from Bingley, making the garden centre accessible without a car.
