Are you a Power Electronics Engineer looking for an opportunity to work on challenging, high-power applications and turn complex customer requirements into practical engineering solutions?
We are looking for a Power Electronics Engineer to join our engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the design, simulation and validation of controlled rectifiers, VAR and reactive power compensation systems, and high-power semiconductor assemblies.
You will play a key role throughout the engineering lifecycle – from interpreting customer requirements and developing converter architectures through to simulation, thermal analysis, design reviews, documentation and technical support during project delivery.
As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will:

Design and develop controlled rectifier systems for industrial and utility applications.

Design VAR and reactive power compensation converter stacks.
-
Select and rate power semiconductor devices including diodes, thyristors and IGBTs.

Develop gate drive, protection, auxiliary and snubber circuits.

Define converter topologies and electrical architectures to meet customer and company requirements.

Develop detailed PLECS simulation models to verify electrical and system performance.

Analyse output voltage and current, harmonics, power factor, reactive power compensation and transient performance.

Carry out fault and abnormal operating condition simulations.

Perform thermal calculations and simulations, including semiconductor losses, heat sink performance, junction temperature and thermal margins.

Produce design calculations, simulation reports, thermal analysis, technical notes and design review documentation.

Present designs at internal technical reviews and implement agreed actions.

Review customer specifications and participate in technical discussions to clarify requirements and resolve engineering issues.

Provide technical support during project execution, factory acceptance testing and commissioning where required.

Support sales and proposal activities through technical evaluations and preliminary design studies.

Contribute to the development of engineering standards, design methodologies and best practice.
You'll ideally have:

A degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electronic Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline.

At least 3 years' experience in power electronics design, although we will consider experience levels based on the individual.

Experience designing medium- or high-power converter systems.

Practical experience with controlled rectifiers, thyristor-based converters, reactive power compensation or power semiconductor assemblies.

Strong knowledge of power electronics fundamentals and converter topologies.

Experience with thyristor, diode and IGBT applications.

Knowledge of harmonic analysis, power factor correction and thermal management of power semiconductor devices.

Experience carrying out electrical and thermal design calculations.

Proficiency in PLECS and the ability to develop models for system simulation and performance verification.

Knowledge of snubber design and semiconductor protection techniques.

The ability to interpret electrical schematics and detailed technical specifications.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, PSPICE, AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN, together with knowledge of relevant IEC and IEEE standards, would be advantageous.
Experience of industrial power quality, reactive power compensation or utility applications would also be beneficial.
