Associated Legal & Financial Ltd (ALAF)
Location: Inverness, Scotland
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £27,000–£34,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
Join the Team Building the Future of Scottish Financial Planning
For more than 20 years, Associated Legal & Financial Ltd (ALAF) has been providing trusted financial advice to individuals, families and businesses throughout Inverness and the Highlands.
Today, we are entering an exciting new chapter.
We’re investing in our people, technology and client experience as we expand our business across Scotland. Over the next two years we will be growing our adviser, mortgage, paraplanning and support teams to build one of Scotland’s leading independent financial planning businesses.
As part of our continued growth, we are looking to appoint a Trainee Mortgage & Protection Adviser to join our expanding advice team.
The Role
This is not a traditional trainee role.
We are looking for someone who has already begun their career within financial services and is committed to becoming a successful Mortgage & Protection Adviser.
Rather than spending years in administration, you will follow a structured development programme designed to accelerate your progression towards Competent Adviser Status (CAS). Working alongside experienced advisers and our client support team, you will gain practical experience, attend client meetings, develop your technical knowledge and gradually build the confidence and skills required to advise clients independently.
As your knowledge and competence develop, you will begin managing your own client relationships under supervision before progressing to a fully authorised Mortgage & Protection Adviser.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career within an ambitious financial planning business while helping clients purchase homes and protect what matters most to them.
Key Responsibilities
· Attend client meetings alongside experienced Mortgage & Protection Advisers.
· Assist with gathering client information and completing mortgage fact finds.
· Learn how to assess affordability and identify suitable mortgage solutions.
· Develop an understanding of protection products, including life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection.
· Support the preparation of mortgage and protection recommendations.
· Liaise with lenders, insurers, solicitors and surveyors throughout the application process.
· Maintain accurate client records using the firm’s back-office systems.
· Develop an understanding of FCA regulations and compliance requirements.
· Continue studying towards professional qualifications and Competent Adviser Status (CAS).
· Participate in ongoing technical and professional development.
· Represent ALAF professionally at all times.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is ambitious, professional and genuinely enjoys helping people.
You will have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the desire to build a long-term career within the mortgage and protection industry. You will enjoy learning, developing your technical knowledge and working closely with experienced colleagues who will support your progression.
Most importantly, you will be committed to delivering outstanding customer service and helping clients make informed decisions with confidence.
Essential Experience
· Previous experience within an FCA-regulated financial services environment.
· A genuine ambition to become a Mortgage & Protection Adviser.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
· Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
· CeMAP qualification (or currently studying towards it).
· Experience within mortgage administration, banking, estate agency or customer-facing financial services.
· Knowledge of residential mortgage products and the home-buying process.
· Experience using Intelligent Office (IO) or similar back-office systems.
· Previous experience dealing with protection products.
· Experience working within an FCA-regulated environment.
What We Offer
· Permanent employed position.

· Opportunity to learn from experienced Mortgage & Protection Advisers.
· Established client base with ongoing referral opportunities.
· Friendly office environment based in Inverness.
