The BMF (Builders Merchants Federation) is the trade association that represents and protects the interests of builders’ merchants & suppliers to the building materials sector in the UK and Ireland.
Total membership from 1 Jan 2026 stands at 1,020 merchant, supplier and service companies who together have combined sales of c£52bn and employ just under 209,000 people in the building materials industry. The BMF’s 525 merchant members, including 74 from Ireland, operate from just over 5,600 branches across the UK and Ireland.
Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Financial Assistant to join our team in Coventry. This is a new role to support our Financial Controller and ensuring accurate processing of financial data. The ideal candidate will contribute to our mission of representing and protecting the interests of our industry members.
Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable processes efficiently using accounting software such as Sage or Xero.
- Perform data entry tasks accurately to maintain financial records.
- Assist with financial reporting and reconciliation activities.
- Support the finance team in day-to-day financial operations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial workflows.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
- Qualifications
- Proven experience with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, or QuickBooks.
- Strong data entry skills with high accuracy.
- Knowledge of accounts payable processes.
- Familiarity with financial services or related fields is a plus.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Prior experience in a similar role within the building materials or distribution sector is advantageous.

Pay: £13.00-£14.00 per hour
