Multi-Skilled Security Engineer
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum
Additional Earnings: Paid travel, on-call and overtime allowances
Typical Total Earnings: £43,000 – £60,000 per annum
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Security Engineer to join an established electronic security engineering team.
This is a hands-on senior position focused on preventative maintenance, reactive fault finding and technical support across a range of electronic security systems.
You will act as a technical escalation point for complex issues, provide support to other engineers and help develop technical capability across the wider team. The role will involve regular customer interaction, so professionalism, communication and a strong customer-focused approach are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out preventative maintenance of electronic security systems.
- Investigate and repair faults across a range of security systems.
- Diagnose complex technical issues and identify effective solutions.
- Provide reliable, high-quality technical support to customers.
- Assist customers and colleagues with technical issues both remotely and on site.
- Provide technical guidance, support and mentorship to other engineers.
- Act as a technical lead when dealing with complex systems and faults.
- Use manufacturer software for system configuration, diagnostics and optimisation.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation relating to completed works.
- Maintain appropriate levels of vehicle stock and equipment.
- Ensure all works are completed safely, professionally and in accordance with relevant standards and procedures.
- Maintain a flexible approach to working hours when required.
- Represent the business professionally through high standards of workmanship and customer service.
Systems & Technology
You will work across a broad range of electronic security technologies, including:
- Intruder Alarm Systems
- Access Control
- CCTV
- Intercom Systems
- Cloud-based security platforms
- Networked security systems
- Manufacturer-specific programming and diagnostic software
Experience across multiple manufacturers and platforms would be advantageous.
About You
You will be an experienced security engineer who is confident working independently and at a senior technical level.
You should demonstrate:
- Strong experience within the electronic security industry.
- Excellent technical knowledge across security systems.
- Proven experience in preventative maintenance and reactive fault finding.
- A systematic and logical approach to technical problem-solving.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- High standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to produce clear and accurate technical documentation.
- A proactive and accountable approach to your work.
- A commitment to getting the job right first time.
- The confidence to support and mentor other engineers.
- A professional, customer-focused attitude.
- A full UK driving licence.

You will be expected to ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant British Standards, legislation, manufacturer requirements and internal quality procedures.
You will also be expected to maintain a consistently high standard of workmanship, documentation and customer service.
