Excell Supply are currently looking for a dedicated and caring SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Birkenhead, starting in September 2026.

The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to pupils who may require additional emotional, behavioural and educational support. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to create a safe, nurturing and positive learning environment.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Supporting children with emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Helping pupils to engage with their learning and develop confidence
- Implementing individual support and behaviour strategies
- Supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom
- Working closely with teachers, SENCO and other professionals
- Promoting inclusion, independence and positive outcomes for all pupils
The Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for someone who is:
- Experienced working with children with SEMH or additional needs
- Patient, compassionate and resilient
- Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and positive manner
- Able to build strong relationships with children
- Proactive and enthusiastic about supporting pupil development
- A strong team player with excellent communication skills
- Passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning
Previous experience within a primary school or SEMH setting is highly desirable.
