Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Assistant Chef to join our dynamic culinary team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food and cooking to develop their skills within a professional kitchen environment. The Assistant Chef will support the head chef in preparing high-quality dishes, ensuring smooth kitchen operations, and maintaining food safety standards. Previous kitchen or restaurant experience is preferred, but a strong enthusiasm for culinary arts and a willingness to learn are essential. This position provides valuable hands-on experience in meal preparation and food service, ideal for those aspiring to advance their culinary careers.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing ingredients and cooking a variety of dishes according to established recipes and standards
- Support the head chef with daily kitchen operations, including food plating and presentation
- Prepare and cook wood-fired pizzas, for our restaurant as well as walk-in customers
- Ensure all food safety and hygiene regulations are strictly followed during food preparation and handling
- Help with meal assembly and serving to ensure timely delivery of orders
- Maintain cleanliness of workstations, utensils, and kitchen equipment throughout shifts
- Organise ingredients and supplies efficiently to optimise workflow
- Support the team during busy periods by assisting with additional tasks as needed
- Follow all health and safety procedures to create a safe working environment for staff and customers
Requirements
- Previous experience in a kitchen, restaurant, or catering environment is desirable but not essential; enthusiasm to learn is key
- We’re set in a rural location, so your own car or reliable alternative is required.
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods
- Understanding of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail
- Flexibility to work shifts including evenings, weekends, or public holidays as required
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and team-oriented mindset
