Trainee Vehicle Technician
Strive Motors Ltd is a fast-growing vehicle repair business based in Taunton, providing both workshop-based and mobile mechanic services across the South West.
We are looking for a motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic Trainee Vehicle Technician to join our growing team and develop their career within the motor trade.
This role is ideal for someone who already has a basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair but wants to gain more hands-on experience, improve their technical ability and progress towards becoming a fully competent Vehicle Technician.
You do not need to know everything from day one. What matters most to us is that you are reliable, willing to learn, take pride in your work and genuinely want to build a career in the automotive industry.
This is not simply a temporary trainee position. We want someone who can develop alongside the company and, over time, take on more responsibility, become more technically capable and progress into a fully qualified technician role.
For the right person, there is significant opportunity for progression, increased responsibility, further training and improved earning potential as their experience develops.
The role will primarily be based at our Taunton workshop, although some travelling may be required for mobile repair work and customer bookings.

Responsibilities
As a Trainee Vehicle Technician, you will work alongside more experienced members of the team while gradually developing the skills and confidence needed to complete jobs independently.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with vehicle servicing, inspections, maintenance and repairs.
- Carrying out basic servicing and repair work independently once competent to do so.
- Learning how to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults.
- Using diagnostic equipment and technical information under guidance.
- Assisting with the replacement of components including brakes, suspension, steering components, belts, cooling system parts and other mechanical items.
- Developing your knowledge of more involved repairs such as clutches, timing belts and engine-related work.
- Carrying out vehicle health checks and identifying worn or defective components.
- Completing pre-repair and post-repair checks.
- Learning correct workshop procedures and professional repair standards.
- Safely using hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment and workshop machinery.
- Assisting with mobile repair work when required.
- Keeping workshop areas, tools, equipment and company vehicles clean and organised.
- Following health and safety procedures at all times.
- Communicating professionally with colleagues and customers.
- Completing jobs carefully and taking responsibility for the quality of your work.
- Continuing to improve your technical knowledge and practical ability.

A full UK driving licence is highly desirable and may be required depending on the duties being undertaken.
Qualifications and Experience
Previous experience within a garage, workshop, dealership, tyre centre, fast-fit centre, college environment or similar automotive setting would be beneficial, but it is not essential for the right person.
Applicants may have:
- A Level 1 or Level 2 Vehicle Maintenance qualification.
- An apprenticeship or partially completed apprenticeship.
- College-based automotive training.
- Previous garage or workshop experience.
- Personal hands-on mechanical experience.
- Experience working on their own vehicles.
- Experience in another practical or mechanical trade.
We are primarily interested in finding someone with the right attitude, work ethic and willingness to develop.
Applicants who do not yet have formal qualifications may still be considered if they can demonstrate good practical ability and a genuine commitment to building a career in the motor trade.
Training and Development
The successful candidate will receive ongoing practical development while working alongside the Strive Motors team.
Depending on your existing experience, you will gradually develop your skills in areas such as:
- Vehicle servicing

Who This Role Would Suit
This position would suit someone at the beginning of their automotive career who wants genuine hands-on experience and the opportunity to progress.
You may currently be:
- Studying vehicle maintenance at college.
- Recently qualified at Level 1 or Level 2.
- Completing or recently finished an apprenticeship.
- Working as a workshop assistant or junior technician.
- Working in a tyre or fast-fit centre and wanting to expand your mechanical skills.
- Working in another practical trade and looking to move into automotive repair.
- Someone with strong personal mechanical experience who wants to turn that interest into a career.
We are looking for someone who is ambitious, dependable and willing to put the effort into developing their skills.
You will not be expected to be a fully qualified technician immediately. We are looking for someone who wants to learn, improve and gradually become a highly capable technician.

Schedule
- Full-time preferred.
- Part-time may be considered for the right candidate.
- Monday to Friday.
- Weekend work may occasionally be available.
- Working hours and flexible arrangements can be discussed.
Location
The role is primarily based at our workshop in Taunton.
Some travel may also be required for mobile repairs and customer bookings across Taunton and the surrounding areas.
Licence / Certification
- Full UK Driving Licence preferred.
- Vehicle maintenance qualification preferred but not essential.
- Level 1 or Level 2 Vehicle Maintenance applicants are encouraged to apply.
- Applications from candidates currently studying automotive qualifications will also be considered.
