Position
Bookkeeper (Part-Time, Permanent)
Location: Balham, London SW12
Hours: 20 hours per week (Monday to Friday – working hours to be agreed)
Salary: £20,000 – £24,000 per annum, depending on experience
Start Date: Immediate or 27 July 2026
The Role
We are looking for an organised, reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our team on a permanent part-time basis.
Working closely with our Financial Controller, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business.
As our current Bookkeeper is leaving at the end of July, the successful candidate will benefit from a structured handover period to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and reconcile daily financial transactions.
- Maintain purchase, sales and general ledgers.
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
- Process monthly payroll, including PAYE, National Insurance and pension contributions.
- Prepare VAT returns for review and submission in line with HMRC deadlines.
- Set up supplier and employee payments for approval.
- Monitor supplier payment due dates and assist with cashflow management.
- Maintain accurate accounting records using Sage and Xero.
- Assist with maintaining and reconciling financial information across accounting systems.
- Support month-end and year-end financial processes.
- Maintain organised financial records and supporting documentation.
- Work alongside the outgoing Bookkeeper during the handover period to ensure continuity of all finance processes.
- Document finance procedures and contribute to improving internal financial processes where appropriate.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a bookkeeping or similar finance role.
- Strong working knowledge of Sage and Xero (essential).
- Experience processing payroll and preparing VAT returns.
- Basic understanding of UK accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills.
- The ability to work independently while communicating effectively with colleagues.
- A professional, trustworthy and confidential approach when handling financial information.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- AAT Level 3 (or above), or an equivalent bookkeeping qualification.
- Experience working alongside a Financial Controller.
- Familiarity with online banking platforms and digital finance tools.
