As part of our community programme, we are launching a tabletop role-playing initiative to foster social connection, confidence, and storytelling skills.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic freelance Dungeon Master (DM) to lead weekly Dungeons & Dragons sessions for a small group of beginner players. This role focuses on delivering a welcoming, accessible, and fun experience tailored to individuals who may be completely new to tabletop role-playing games.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver engaging weekly 2-hour Dungeons & Dragons sessions
* Adapt storytelling and gameplay to suit novice players
* Create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment
* Guide players through rules, character development, and gameplay mechanics
* Manage group dynamics to ensure all participants feel involved and valued
* Prepare session materials (story arcs, encounters, NPCs, etc.) in advance
* Liaise with project staff regarding participant needs and session feedback
* Ensure sessions align with the CIC’s values of accessibility and community wellbeing
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Strong experience as a Dungeon Master in Dungeons & Dragons (5e preferred)
* Ability to teach and simplify rules for beginners
* Excellent storytelling, improvisation, and facilitation skills
* Confidence in managing small groups with varying personalities
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Reliability and good time management
Desirable:
* Experience working in community, youth, or social impact settings
* Understanding of inclusive practices and safeguarding awareness
* Experience supporting individuals with additional needs or low confidence
* Enhanced DBS/PVG (or willingness to obtain, depending on location requirements)

Pay:
Competitive sessional rate (to be discussed based on experience)
Additional Information:
All materials can be provided, though DMs are welcome to incorporate their own resources with prior agreement. Sessions will take place in a shared community space, so the ability to adapt to different environments is important.
