Are you compassionate, energetic, and ready to make a meaningful impact? We are looking for a dedicated full-time Personal Assistant to join our close-knit team supporting a young gentleman with profound learning difficulties to live a life full of joy, growth, and as much independence as possible.
We’re a family-led team working hands-on to develop our son’s daily living skills, confidence, and social engagement. Despite significant challenges—including epilepsy, autistic traits, and mild deafness—he continues to surprise us with his resilience, humour, and capacity to learn. He’s non-verbal but expressive, cheeky, and full of personality. With the right support, he thrives.
About the Role
You’ll be part of a trained team providing 2:1 support, helping him engage in fun, meaningful activities at home and in the community. This includes:
- Supporting daily living skills using positive behavioural strategies
- Applying physiotherapy and oral motor therapy targets (training will be given)
- Encouraging independence through patience, creativity, and gentle persistence
- Reading subtle cues and using communication aids to understand his needs
- Assisting with mobility, including occasional wheelchair and walking frame use
- Participating in activities like Ski-ability, swimming, walking, actively taking part to motivate him in weekly physio sessions.
This is a full-time role (41 hours per week) working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and Wednesday 7.30am-4.30pm
Statutory holidays (5.6 weeks pro-rata) are included.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who is:
- Patient, observant, and emotionally intelligent
- Creative, dynamic, and able to think on their feet
- Willing to learn and adapt as our son’s needs evolve
- In good general health and physical condition, with the stamina to support an active daily routine e.g trampolining, pushing on swing/roundabout, swimming etc
- Comfortable with physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and pushing a wheelchair that weighs 14kg and client that weighs 58.5kg total weight 72.5 kg
- A confident driver with a full clean UK or EU driving licence and access to a reliable car as we are not on a direct bus route.
- Ability to drive a large automatic car and work hoists in order to load and unload son's wheelchair and any other equipment
- Educated to A-level standard or with relevant current experience
- Fluent in English (spoken and written) with basic maths skills. Able to complete basic data forms (an understanding of Excel would be a bonus).
- Empathetic and enthusiastic about working with individuals with special needs
- Experience in assisting with showering, dressing and toileting/incontinence products.
- Experience with Epilepsy
- Able to give medication (already pre made up by parents). No emergency epilepsy medications required at this time but full training would be given should there be a change to clients requirements.
- Happy to work within a small friendly team within a home environment
Experience in behavioural support is welcome but not essential—full training is provided, including sessions with our Behavioural Consultant (BCBA Risca Solomon of Skybound Autism Therapies).

A 6-month probation period applies. Salary is paid every 4 weeks and reviewed annually.

- Full DBS check required before starting unless the appropriate certificate is held on the DBS update service.
- COVID safety protocols in place (handwashing, sanitising)
- Must hold a clean full UK or EU driving licence and be comfortable driving an automatic car/small van (training provided if needed).
- Must have access to a reliable car to get to work as we are not close to a bus route
