Memorial (Headstone) Fitter
North East Headstones and Monuments, a long-established family business, is seeking a dedicated Memorial Fitter to join our team. This role offers excellent career progression, with the potential for the successful applicant to train and become a fully qualified Monumental Mason.
We work across cemeteries in the North East and from our workshop in South Shields.
The Role
You will be undertaking hands-on, precise work across the region.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Carefully removing old or existing monuments and headstones.
Preparing new memorials and headstones, materials and stonework for placement.
Monument cleaning and renovation
Executing the secure and respectful installation of monuments at cemetery sites.
Moving and handling heavy stone memorials. Health and safety is a top priority for our company, so strict adherence to safe lifting and manual handling procedures is essential at all times.
Requirements
Experience: Direct experience in monumental masonry is not required, as full training will be given. However, candidates without direct experience should possess a background in construction.
Transport: A valid driving licence is essential. You must be able to confidently drive a company van to transfer heavy materials to and from cemeteries.
Forklift Licence: Ideally hold a forklift driving licence, or full training will be given.
Safety Focus: A strong commitment to workplace health and safety, particularly regarding the safe movement of heavy loads.
Compensation
Salary and working hours are flexible and will be negotiated dependent upon your level of experience.
