The Warehouse Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for promoting and embedding a proactive health, safety and compliance culture across all of the storage and warehousing operations. Working closely with the Storage Director and Business Process and Safety Manager, the role acts as the local Health & Safety Champion, ensuring safe working practices, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement across all warehouse activities.
The role will support the development and implementation of safe systems of work, risk management processes, training programmes and incident investigations while providing day-to-day guidance to operational teams. The main hours of work will be Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.
Health & Safety Leadership
- Act as the primary Health & Safety Champion for the storage and warehousing operation.
- Promote a positive safety culture through visible leadership and employee engagement.
- Support managers and supervisors in implementing company H&S policies and procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Facilitate regular safety meetings, toolbox talks and awareness campaigns.
Risk Management & Safe Systems of Work
- Develop, review and maintain Risk Assessments (RAs), Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Systems of Work.
- Ensure all warehouse activities are supported by current and effective risk assessments.
- Conduct workplace inspections and hazard spotting activities to identify and mitigate risks.
- Monitor compliance with operational procedures and safety controls.
- Support change management processes by assessing risks associated with new equipment, processes or operational changes.
Incident Management
- Lead the reporting, recording and investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and hazardous occurrences.
- Identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Track actions through to closure and ensure lessons learned are communicated effectively.
- Maintain accurate incident records and produce trend analysis reports.
Training & Competence
- Coordinate and deliver health and safety training across the storage operation.
- Support the induction process for new employees, contractors and temporary workers.
- Maintain training matrices and ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements.
- Identify competency gaps and work with managers to develop appropriate training solutions.
- Provide guidance and coaching on safe working practices.
Audits, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections and compliance checks.
- Take corrective action to deal with all audit non-conformances
- Work closely with Mini Clipper DGSA to ensure all storage records and documentation is DG compliant
- Monitor adherence to company standards and relevant legislation.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Assist in developing and monitoring H&S KPIs and performance metrics.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational safety, efficiency and compliance.
Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with the Warehouse Operations Director on operational safety priorities.
- Collaborate with the Business Process and Safety Manager to ensure consistency of standards and compliance requirements.
- Build effective working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees and contractors.
- Act as a point of contact for H&S queries within the warehouse operation.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Completion and review of SOPs and Risk Assessments.
- Incident reporting and investigation completion rates.
- Closure of corrective actions within agreed timescales.
- Training compliance levels.
- Audit and inspection scores.
- Reduction in accidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
Employee engagement in safety initiatives.What we are looking for...
- Experience within a warehouse, storage, logistics or distribution and multi-site environment is essential.
- Experience of health and safety coordination, administration or supervisory responsibilities is essential.
- Experience producing risk assessments, SOPs and safe systems of work is essential.
- Experience investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions is essential.
- Experience delivering training, toolbox talks or safety briefings in the absence of site manager is essential.
- IOSH qualification or equivalent is essential.
- Good understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Knowledge of warehouse operations and associated risks.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong report writing and documentation skills is essential.
- Ability to work autonomously when needed with focus and progression and working to defined targets/deadlines.
- Internal Auditor qualification would be desirable.
- Experience within a regulated storage environment
- A good working knowledge and adaptability to workplace operating systems and platforms (Microsoft platforms, Riskex, GoAudits, WMS Systems).

**Driving licence is essential as this role will be required to travel across all our sites where required including the site in Burton**
