Design Team
- Substation and Cable Design: Responsible for the design of line and underground cable circuits, substation layouts (both Air Insulated Substation (AIS) and Gas Insulated Substation (GIS)), as well as protection and control schemes.
-
Technical Specifications: Generate detailed specifications for plant and equipment, which include transformers, switchgear, protection relays, current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs), and auxiliary supplies.
- Engineering Calculations: Conduct load flow studies, short-circuit calculations, cable sizing, earthing design in accordance with BS 7430, and protection studies.
-
DNO/IDNO Liaison: Prepare design submissions and manage the approval process with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs), ensuring compliance with G81, G99, and other relevant ENA standards.
-
Drafting: Generate detailed General Arrangement (GA) drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and wiring diagrams utilising AutoCAD software.
-
Modelling: Employ software tools for earthing studies, and Windebut or VisNet for low voltage modelling.
-
Project Lifecycle Support: Assist project managers with tenders, cost estimates, site assessments, and revisions to design during the construction phase.
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an HNC/HND with substantial relevant experience.
-
Proven of experience in ICP/IDNO/DNO design with the ability to deliver innovative design solutions under stringent project timelines.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; familiarity with power system software such as VisNet Connect
- A solid understanding of IEC/BS standards and ENA Recommendations, Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) regulations, and DNO/National Grid network design standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client-facing interactions and technical report documentation.
-
Capability of managing multiple concurrent projects from the tender phase through to final design approval.
-
Experience of Windebut software
-
Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) membership is desirable.
The Electrical Design Engineer will be part of the ICP design team, with particular emphasis on Low Voltage (LV) projects. This position entails producing a comprehensive design package for both DNO-contestable and private projects.
