We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Advisory Pharmacist to provide expert guidance in medicines management across our organisation. This role is ideal for a senior pharmacist looking to apply their clinical expertise in a strategic, advisory capacity while maintaining flexibility. The Advisory Pharmacist will work closely with the Head of Clinical Services and other senior leaders to ensure safe, effective, and compliant use of medicines. This primary role is 12 months fixed-term for 2 days a month. The Advisory Pharmacist could also help us with an additional 3 days a month with regards to Online Prescribing, potentially evolving into a permanent full-time role in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
- PGDs and Policy Management:
- Maintain, review, and update Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and medicines-related policies to ensure they reflect current legislation, best practice, and organisational requirements.
- Provide expert advice to clinical leadership teams on the implementation and interpretation of PGDs and policies.
- Controlled Drugs and Medication Oversight:
- Serve as the lead pharmacist for controlled drugs, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and professional standards.
- Support audits, inspections, and risk management related to controlled drugs and other high-risk medications.
- Medicines Management Expertise:
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for medication management, supporting the Head of Clinical Services in strategic and operational decisions.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to clinical teams on safe and effective medicines use, including complex or high-risk scenarios.
- Adverse Incident Review:
- Participate in reviews of adverse incidents involving medicines, contributing expert insight to identify root causes and recommend system improvements.
- Collaborate with clinical governance teams to implement lessons learned and promote a culture of safety.
Person Specification:
- Completion of a Master’s degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent)
- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Registered pharmacist at least 5 years, ideally including senior or advisory roles.
- In-depth knowledge of medicines legislation, PGDs, controlled drugs regulations, and governance frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence and guide clinical decision-making.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining professional accountability.
- Experience within the compliance of government contracts/NHS administration or Online Pharmacies would be desirable
Remuneration and Commitment:
- Remuneration is competitive and aligned with national averages for advisory pharmacist roles.
- This role requires 2 days per month extendable to up to 5 days a month, working remotely, offering flexibility while allowing the postholder to make a high-impact contribution.
- The role could evolve into a permanent role for the right candidate depending on contract expansion.
Pay: £37.50 per hour
